1v1 to 2v2 in a channel
Defenders serve to attackers and defend a 20×30 m channel in front of a goal with a goalkeeper, progressing from 1v1 to 2v2.
Rules
- Defender passes to the attacker, then closes down
- Attacker tries to score past the goalkeeper
- Defender earns a point by winning the ball and dribbling over the halfway cone line
- After a few minutes add a second pair to play 2v2: one presses, one covers
Coaching points
- Close down while the pass travels and brake early
- Steer the attacker onto the weaker foot or away from goal
- In the 2v2 the covering defender sits at an angle behind the presser
