Pressing on a trigger, 6v6 on half a 9v9 pitch: the red team builds from its goalkeeper. When the ball goes to the wide player, the nearest lime player presses on a curve that blocks the inside pass, and the others shift across and compress.

Rules

  • Building team scores in a mini-goal on halfway for 1 point
  • Pressing team scores 2 points by winning the ball and scoring in the big goal within 8 seconds
  • The pass to the wide player triggers the press
  • 2 min rest; swap roles at half time

Coaching points

  • Presser curves the run to cut the inside pass and use the touchline
  • Cover player 5–8 m behind at an angle
  • Far side shifts across so the team becomes narrow and short
  • Presser calls 'go' to start the press

Common mistakes

  • Two players press the same opponent and leave the inside pass free
  • Presser runs straight and lets the ball go inside
